The Abrolhos Islands
Hop on a light aircraft and fly 60km west of Geraldton to the Abrolhos Islands for a spot of snorkelling and diving. The sights aren’t all below sea level, see if you can spot the colourful huts owned by local cray fishermen dotted amongst the white coral islands and blue waters.

The white sandy beaches of this town mark the start of the beautiful Coral Coast. Needless to say, you should start here before turning inland for the Pinnacles Desert in the heart of the Nambung National Park. Drive or stroll through the thousands of limestone spires, some up to 12 metres tall. Be sure to stop by Lake Thetis on your way back to Geraldton.

Hutt Lagoon
If you post nothing else on your Geraldton trip, be sure to photograph Hutt Lagoon, the famous pink lake. Located 100kms north of Geraldton, the pink lake gets its colour from an algae and can take on different shades depending on what time of day you’re visiting.

Just over the sand dunes from Hutt Lagoon is Port Gregory which was recently named best Australian Beach on the mainland by Tourism Australia. This picturesque fishing village is surrounded by 5kms of exposed reef which is ideal for snorkelling and diving.
Kalbarri Gorges
About an hour and a half north of Geraldton are the Kalbarri Gorges which have been forged over millions of years by the river, creating dramatic cliff faces. Head to the Nature’s Widow lookout and don’t forget your swimmers to take a dip in one of the pools at the bottom of the cliffs.

Jurien Bay
Pack up the 4WD and head to Sandy Cape, just outside of Jurien Bay. It’s a tiny, white sand beach that’s only accessible via 4WD, but it’s worth the trip boasting some of Western Australia’s best swimming, snorkelling, sandboarding and SUP’ing. If you’re around in springtime, prepare to be wowed as flowers carpet the landscape becoming one of the top wildflower hotspots in the world.
